Although this is technically a children’s book, I believe it’s appropriate for anyone to read. When God Made You by Matthew Paul Turner is a beautifully written description of how special and unique we all are.

We live in a world that is completely driven by social media and images that have been carefully curated. It’s very easy for adults to get caught up in what they see online and begin to pick themselves apart because of it…so imagine how much pressure children are under. When God Made You tells a story about how each of us was created by God with very special and specific character traits. It encourages us to love ourselves and embrace everything that makes us different. After all, our differences are what makes us special.

It’s hard to choose one favorite thing about this book so I’ll choose two. I love the words and poetry and I absolutely love the illustrations. My takeaway from the way David Catrow gave imagery to the words in the book by using an artist and all the colors is that God is the ultimate artist, or Creator, and he created us as carefully as an artist paints their pieces. It really moved me and drove the entire point of the book home.

I would recommend this book to any parent looking for a positive self-affirming book that isn’t too “heavy” (if that makes sense) for their child. You can find it on Amazon by clicking here.
